Take a look into the night sky. The common color of that sky is black. Only the things that have energy create light in this universe. So light has to "fight" the darkness of the universe. Space is dark without some kind of energy in the form of light. For instance if you go into a dark room, you need a flashlight to see where you are going and of course the light in that flashlight requires energy to become brighter than the surrounding dark space.
It may be possible that in the so called afterlife that the opposite holds true that light is the dominate feature and it is darkness that has to fight to exist or perhaps there is no concept of darkness at all.
